Over the past six years, we have had the honour to live, work and play with some very wonderful characters. Unfortunately not every horse is meant to be saved, nor can they live forever. Some have such serious health issues, it amazes us that we can even give them a little bit of time, happy and healthy.

The one fact we can not change and would not change is that every one of these animals has touched our lives and changed us forever. Their mark has been left on this world for the lucky ones to recognize and see.

We would like to acknowledge this greatness, now, and thank them for sharing themselves with us.

2005:

21 Jump Street - Although not a rescue, we must recognize the extraordinary strength and bravery of both the horse and his young person. Depp was a 5yr old OTTB who was purchased and boarded with us by a 15yr old girl, Caitlyn. He unfortunately wound up with colon and intestinal cancer and left us too soon. Caitlyn has since grown up, is in college and still frequently keeps in touch and visits whenever possible. We miss them both!

2006:

Benji - Benji and Grasshopper came together in May. Once Grasshopper made friends with the others in their herd, Benji decided it was safe to go. He was humanely euthanized at the young age of 38 in August. Grasshopper is still going in his prime at 38 years young and is still the crowd pleaser!

2008:

 Nevada- Nevada was a southern gentleman, raised to work cattle. Brought here to be a hack horse, he was CJ's first horse. She eventually sold him to a young girl, Laura to be her first horse. After years of teaching everyone to ride, he just didn't have the umph to continue. In January, Laura invited us to his going away party where he had his favourite foods, cheeseburgers and beer. He was humanely euthanized the following morning, at the young age of 26. We thank him for entering our lives and we thank Laura for sharing his later years and departure with us. You are both loved.

Perfect Timing - Bobby was a stubborn cuss. He was CJs retired eventing horse, an award given to her for Trainer of the Year at Centenary College (because nobody else could do a thing with him!). He had every ailment known to "equinekind". Every year since 2002 we thought he'd be gone. On Easter weekend this year, we decided it was time and scheduled an appointment for the vet on Monday. In normal Bobby style, he decided Saturday worked best for him and removed that chore from our list. He spent the last hours of his 27 years with his harem, Delilah, Rosie and Sierra and taught them that dying can be just as peaceful and happy as living. Thank You Bobby!

RD Negoukir - Nega was a bull in life, but a lady to the end. She came to us without ever knowing her mother, *Negaa, had also spent 5 years with ARM founder Terry. Her half-brother, RD Tamoukir was also Terry's first Arabian, a stallion of such beauty who Terry lost to EPM at the height of his show career and performance training, 8 years young. She was very much the product of her breeding. Her temperament sweet and mild, yet she always let us know exactly what she wanted at all times.

Covered in mud and scars from barb wire that had healed from the outside in, a capped hock and about 100lbs. underweight, she and Prudenta kept Bekas company on the long cross country trip from Washington. The girls were so scared, they lashed out at the crew so often, they were afraid to let us unload them ourselves. They NEVER kicked again.

She joined Bobby a month later, one week before her 20th birthday. Her sense of humour and "bull in a china shop" attitude will be remembered for many years.

Muffin & Fanny (10/08 & 1/09)

Muffin and Fanny came to us in 9/07 due to changes in their owner's life situation. They were both aged Arabians, a stallion and a mare.

Muffin, the stallion was adopted in January by our, then resident working student and endurance rider, Katie. They rode and played together for hours on end. Katie returned home to resume studies at her local university and her two boys went with her. It was a great loss to the Rescue, but education is first and foremost. Unfortunately, Muffin did not make it to the winter. He went in his sleep one night in the corner of the large, grassy pasture he shared with brother, Splash.

Fanny went to live with our foster Mom, Vickie and did leisurely trail rides with them and her new horsey buddies. Fanny also did not make it through the winter as she was fighting severe melanomas and cancer. She was euthanized humanely in 1/09.

They will both be loved and missed forever!

Saladin's Delilah

Delilah was Terry's first rescue and second Arab. They were brought together by fate, while on vacation, in 1992 and have been together since. The granddam is 24 now and still a beautiful bay, 15.3hd matriarch who rules the roost with an iron fist and a great sense of humour. She has produced 3 awesome foals for Terry; one Egyptian by Safire who produced the dam of an East Coast Futurity Champion colt, one Polish bred by MHR Eclipse who competes in endurance and one Russian bred by RD Tamoukir (Aboukir x Amira Tamara).

 Sobutka

When CJ met Sobutka, she thought she looked familiar. Boo's sire, Sobek was a stallion no one wanted to handle that CJ used to take care of. The circle of life!*Prudent HT(1982-2009)

 Bekas passed in his sleep in the prime of his life at 30 1/2 yrs old, 2 days before Terry's birthday. Funny how my heart left on Valentine's day and my soul left for my birthday! He has touched so many lives it is hard to imagine continuing without him, but we must and we do! Thank you for gracing our lives even if for that short time.
